Introducing Coconut Grove

A laid-back oasis,
built under the canopy.

Coconut Grove is Miami's oldest neighborhood, and traces of its colorful past are evident on every street corner. Blanketed by tropical greenery, the Grove features plentiful wildlife and ebullient natural beauty. Between bricks of coral and limestone, ivy-coated walls, ample shade, and historic architecture that references its roots as a bohemian community in the 1960s, its distinctively vibrant ambience is unmistakable.

"The Grove," as it's known to locals, is famous for both its downtown strip and the bayfront. Its downtown area features the CocoWalk shopping center, as well as a number of local bars, boutiques, and restaurants in the colorful surrounding blocks. Along the water, you'll encounter one of Miami's largest marinas and Peacock Park. Coconut Grove is also home to the stunning Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, which features Spanish architecture and the most elaborate cultivated garden in the city.

You'll fall in love with the outdoor culture, eccentric spirit, and winding streets draped in greenery and charm. Coconut Grove exemplifies the original South Florida ideal — a modern lifestyle in a place that feels separated from time.

Drive down Tigertail, Crystal Court, or El Prado and you understand instantly. The oak and banyan canopy that defines Coconut Grove isn't decorative — it's the reason people who can live anywhere in Miami choose to live here. — Tayreen Nelson · Riley Smith Group at Compass

Lifestyle · Parks, Waterfront & Daily Rhythm

The water,
the trees, the village.

Coconut Grove makes staying active, nourished, and one-with-nature a daily habit rather than a weekend plan. Premium gyms, organic markets, and a connected park system — anchored by Kennedy, Peacock, and Regatta Parks along the bayfront — sit minutes from any Grove address. The Grove is golf-cart friendly, walkable, and shaped around its marinas as much as its streets.

The Canopy

The Old Grove canopy
is the city itself.

The mature oak and banyan canopy that defines Coconut Grove isn't decorative — it's the reason people who can live anywhere in Miami choose to live here. It shapes the architecture (contemporary Spanish, lower-profile, deeper lots). It shapes the buyer pool (private, often artistic, often international). It shapes what a Grove home sells for and how quickly. If you own under that canopy and are considering a sale, marketing has to start with what's already there before it gets to what's inside the four walls. That's the difference between listing a home in Miami and listing a Grove home.

What I Love About the Grove

The Grove is my
professional home.

My office is here, my extended family is here, my clients are here, and the rhythm of the neighborhood is part of my daily life in a way no brochure can communicate. A few things I find myself coming back to — details that rarely make it into the marketing copy.

Riding bikes to the Village Center on a Saturday morning, weaving through tree-canopied streets that feel more like a Caribbean village than a major American city. Open-air lunch at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, looking out across the mooring field and Biscayne Bay — a quiet members' view most of Miami never sees. Walking in and out of my office every day with Monty's marina just off to the side: sailboats, fishing boats, the constant blue. Dinner at Glass & Vine on a weeknight while the kids play in Peacock Park next door — the indoor-outdoor, casual-and-elevated rhythm the Grove specializes in. Saturday mornings at the organic farmers market on Grand Avenue, where I run into past clients, friends, and neighbors picking out tomatoes and avocados. And every October, trick-or-treating in the South Grove on storied streets like Irvington Avenue — neighbors go all out, the whole community turns out, and it's the kind of tradition our family looks forward to every year. Spring brings the Gifford Lane Art Stroll, a uniquely Grove tradition where neighbors and artists open the street to local art, music, and the kind of warm gathering that defines what makes this place itself.

The South Grove's streets are deliberately different — most residential streets have no sidewalks, just narrow canopied lanes where you walk in the street under the banyans. It's part of what gives the Grove its quieter, more organic feel, and one of the genuine differences between living in the Grove and living in Coral Gables. Worth knowing if you're choosing between them.

These aren't tourist activities. They're the everyday rhythm of Grove life — and they're why clients who move here from somewhere else tend to stay.
